COMTO Scholarship Program 2021

The Southern California Regional Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO-SoCal) is pleased to announce its 2021 Scholarship Program. COMTO-SoCal has assumed an active role in the minority community establishing numerous programs, related to the transportation industry, that energize and strengthen the communities we serve. Our scholarship program is committed to providing financial support to minority students to help them maximize their educational potential.

COMTO SoCal has established many programs, including annual scholarship awards. COMTO SoCal believes education is a core foundation for excellence in transportation and any other field of study. Our scholarship program is committed to providing financial support to minority students to help them maximize their educational potential. We invite you to apply for our scholarship. 

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION:

COMTO SoCal offers a variety of scholarships starting at $2,500 to deserving students in the region. The number of scholarships and the amounts for the 2022 academic year will be determined following a review of the applications and donations received. Selections are made by a team of industry professionals and/or representatives from the academic community.

Applicant Requirements:

  1. U. S. citizens currently enrolled full-time as High School seniors, undergraduate students or graduate students in a transportation industry related academic program at an accredited college, university or vocational-trade school. All eligible students are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be able to describe their short and long-range professional career goals in an essay (See Career Interest Essay requirement, Item B, page 4).

    • Examples of Academic Majors that Support the Transportation Industry: Transportation professionals work in a broad range of areas that generally aim to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of people and goods. Academic majors that support the transportation industry include the following:

      • Engineering (i.e. Civil, Construction, Environmental, Mechanical, and Electrical)

      • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)

      • Social Sciences (i.e. Planning, Economics, Geography, and Political Science)

      • Business Administration (i.e. Business Management, Policy, Occupational Health & Safety, Communications, Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, and Information Technology)

      • Other Related Fields (i.e. Aviation, Transportation Logistics, Transportation Management)

  2. Members of a racial minority group (African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian American, Hispanic American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and other races).

  3. Applicants must either be a resident of Southern California or attending a college or vocational-technical school in Southern California.

  4. High school graduates or college students with a declared academic major for Spring or Summer 2022.

  5. Applicants must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or above.

  6. Applicants will be required to verify the information.

  7. Previous COMTO-SoCal Scholarship recipients must be current COMTO student members.

  8. Winners are required to attend the COMTO-SoCal Scholarship Awards Event. (Parents can accept for awardees; The COMTO-SoCal Scholarship Awards Event will be held December 2021.

  9. Students may receive scholarships a maximum of two times from the COMTO-SoCal Regional Chapter.
